This week has been so good! The best of all them so far! We had the best speaker, Carlos Penning. He spoke on the Character and Nature of God. It was so great! He challenged us to ask God big questions and get the answers only from him. Carlos would always ask us what questions we had and most time he wouldn't answer them, but encourage us to look into the bible for the answer. He really challenged us to get to know the heart of God. It was just so good, I learnt so much!
We had a day this week called the day of giving. It was really sweet. This day was to help us remember that the things we have aren't our own and that if we allow God to use what we have for his glory, he will bless us. It was crazy to see what God did and how people totally gave what they had over to God. One person gave their guitar, another gave their big travel backpack, and another gave her laptop. It was so crazy, God taught me so much. Someone gave me a pair of shoes and someone else gave me head phones. At first when I got the head phones I was so confused, why would God give me head phones? But then he reminded me that I gave a pair of head phone away to one of my friends when I got here. God had seen what I did and blessed me. WOW! Haha. It was so encouraging and I'm so excited to see how my friends are going to be blessed.
Yesterday I went to the beach! It was my first time at the beach since I've been here in Costa Rica, so I was super HAPPY! We had to take a two hour bus ride to Jaco, but it was so worth it. When we got there and got off the bus you could just feel the heat! It was so amazing! Haha. We weren't there for very long. We got there at 10:30am and had to get tickets for the bus back to San Jose at 2pm because all the later buses where full, but it was long enough that we all roasted a bit. When we were at the beach we got smoothies. They were SO big and SO good! Haha. It was a sweet deal, 2 for 1, so it only cost us $2 each! If you had bought one back at home it would have been $5 or more I'm sure. Haha
And thats all that really happened this week that was exciting! Hopefully all is well in the homeland of Canada! I'm still not missing it. Haha
Much love,
Hannah
Ps. I took some pictures at the beach, I will see if I can get them on sometime!

Week Three Already! WOW!
Time goes so fast! The first week here went so slow it seemed like, but week two went so fast! Its already Tuesday of week three. So many great things have been happening. God is so amazing and I'm being blown away by the things he's been revealing to me. Its so great!
So last week during classes we were learning about our Identities in Christ. We had Paster Steve Shank as our speaker. He was really interesting and a bit boring at times. Let's just say it was very easy to fall asleep in class, haha.
To be honest, I don't remember to much about last week, haha. It went by so fast. But there are a couple things that stuck out that I'll tell you about.
On Thursday afternoons we have local outreach. Last week was our first week actually doing it. So the group I'm in for that went to a nursing home, old people! I found it really difficult because I don't speak spanish, so I could't really do much. I was with my friend Lukas, he speaks spanish, so most of the time I just sat there, haha. BUT, then we found this man who spoke some english, he had lived in California back in the early 60's! So I got to talk to him and pray for him. I was very encouraged by this. I felt like I was actually doing something, haha.
On saturday, more then half the DTS went on this tour, they went zip-lining and waterfall repelling. I wasn't able to go because I can't access any of my money here at the moment. (Stupid ATM's) So I stayed behind with some of the others and I took over weekend work duties for one of my friends who went on the tour.
So weekend work duties is, when you have to make breakfast and dinner, and clean the bathrooms, Saturday and Sunday. So I wan't really looking forward to it.. but it turned out to be really fun! I really enjoyed helping make the meals and the people that I worked with were awesome and made it so much more enjoyable! Haha. I also really enjoyed serving everyone their meals, it was nice to see everyone and say HI, and just chit chat. Was fun!
This week so far has been good! Super good! Our speaker this week is really good, REALLY GOOD! The topic is 'Characteristics Of God'. Its been so good! I haven't fallen asleep in class YET, and we have had 3 classes already. Its been really interesting and we're using our bibles a lot, WOOOTWOOT! So you have to stay focus or you get lost really easily. But yeah, its been super, super good. And I wish I could tell you all about it, but it's just so hard to explain.. I think I would just confuse you. Haha. Ask me about it in person. Okay?
Anyways. I'm not sure what else to say. OH! This past weekend was so WARM! Oh man, I got so tan! Haha. It was so great. Hehe. Sorry family! I also went downtown again and did some more mini shopping with two of my new friends, Laura and Becky! It was fun, we went thrifting and to a little tourist market thing. Was fun.
Hope all is well back home!
Maybe soon I'll start missing it.. Haha
Much love,
Hannah

Week One!
Discipleship Training School, one week down and things are so amazing. There are 35 of us DTS students and we are already a big happy family. I feel like I've been here forever. This week has been overwhelming. A new city, new people, new schedule, intense class time and homework. All this new stuff to take in and process. Its great! Haha. So let me tell you about my week.
Monday was our first day of class (Sorry thats a lie, we had a class Sunday night after dinner). Our topic this week was 'Hearing God's Voice'. So we had class in the morning right after worship, then the afternoon was free, till about 4, then everybody started their work duty (I have this time off everyday because my work duty is to clean up the kitchen after dinner). And then after dinner we had bible study.
Tuesday was way better then monday, I had started to get used to waking up at 6:15am. We had a prayer time, then class, since our topic this week was hearing the voice of God, we went on a silent retreat. So we went to a park close by the base, we all had to find a place alone and just be still before God and listen. It was a sweet experience. I had the whole afternoon off, so me and a bunch of people walked down the street to the AmPm (mini grocery store). Then I did dishes after dinner. Then we had class in the evening.
Wednesday! Half way through my first week! We had worship in the morning and then class. Then we had another free afternoon. Again I did dishes. Every other Wednesday night we have a Family Night. That means we have a time of worship and message of some sort. So this wednesday was a family night, so during this we learned all about the different ministries that happen here at the base! Was so sweet.
Thursday, we had class in the morning, then a free afternoon. During the free afternoon I practice for worship, I co-lead a worship team with my new friend, we were leading worship friday morning, so we practiced in the afternoon and after dinner. And of course I had dishes after dinner.
Friday, my team and I lead worship for an hour, it was AWESOME! Nothing like leading worship at home. Then we went on another Silent Retreat for class. Then after lunch we had small groups, which was fun, we did some acting (Not my favorite thing). Then dishes after dinner and then we had fellowship night. So they had some games planned for us, was fun!
Saturday, DAY OFF! No dishes. Praise the Lord. Haha. It's a lot of work to do dishes for 80ish people. On Saturday's we have to make our lunch at breakfast, so that's what I did. Then a big group of us headed off to downtown San Jose! On the bus. It was a good day! I picked up some sweaters at a thrift store (because its so cold at night and I didn't bring enough sweaters). Then once we got back from downtown I did some laundry, I hand washed it all, SO FUN! Haha (It won't be so fun in a month). I then did all my homework. Then after dinner we watched a movie, Inception. I had already seen it so I got bored and went to bed.
Sunday (Today), I made my lunch at breakfast, then went to church. Same church as last weekend. Came back to the base and ate lunch out in the sun. I didn't do much in the afternoon. Everyone was doing their homework and I had already done mine yesterday.. Haha. So I just chilled out. I finished the first book we have to read. I FaceTimed my sister Olivia. Then before dinner some of the girls who speak spanish and english put together a spanish class for all who wanted to learn spanish. So I went to that then had dinner. And now I'm writing this blog.
Yeah, that was my first week! It was FULL of new and exciting things. Week 2 starts tomorrow and I'm so excited to see what we are going to be doing and learning. Bring it on!
Hopefully I can continue updating. Took a while for me to put this together for ya'll!

The Start Of Something New!
I am here in San Jose, Costa Rica. Sitting outside in the sun, with a cool breeze, and a the soft music of a guitar. How amazing is that? To think that a couple days ago I was layering my body with clothing so that I wouldn't be freeze on my way to work and praying that the roads wouldn't be bad to drive on from the snow. So crazy, so amazing.
So, you all probably want to know what I've been doing since I got here. Well, here you go. I got to the base Saturday early, early morning, 12:30pm. All day Saturday was orientation, so meeting all the other students in the DTS, getting an overview of the weeks to come, and learning all about what a Discipleship Training School actually is. It was a lot of information to take in, but I think I remember the basic most important things, haha.
Saturday night we had a celebration, so we had nice formal dinner and then after dinner we had a time of worship and celebration of the different nations of the world. Then after all that, we had another celebration for two girls who's birthdays we had missed. We had cake and pop, and then we danced! Salsa, tango, and just plain normal, crazy dancing. It was so fun!
Today (Sunday), we went to church. It was so wonderful. Church here in Latin America is WAY different then church at home. The singing is loud, not instrument loud, but voices loud. The body of Christ is moving and ALIVE, no sitting around, no heartless worship. Even though, the worship was in Spanish and I had no idea what I was singing, I couldn't help but shout out and dance. God was there and I know for a fact He was pleased.
This afternoon, we had another little class to go over things. Was long and boring.. But all that is now over and we begin classes tonight. It's now free time. I am now blogging and watching some friends play soccer.
Hope to tell you all more soon!
Much love,
Hannah
Ps. Those who want to know what I eat.. rice and beans, lots of rice and beans, haha. BUT, there is other stuff! Thank goodness!

Almost Here
37 hours till my plane departs from Toronto. I have offically broken out in hives for the first time in my life, some say its stress, some say its nerves, I say it's both plus excitement. Who wouldn't be all those when their leaving home for 5 months, to a place they've never been, doing things they almost can't even imagine.
Packing is going quite nicely. I finished all my last minute shopping yesterday, thanks to the help of a dear friend. All I need to do is wash a couple things, check everything off my lists and some how make it all fit into one suitcase. Cross your fingers that I get it all in. Haha.
For all the people who have been asking for my address in Costa Rica here it is;

It would be so lovely if I recieved a couple letter while I'm away! Who doesn't love getting updates from home that are hand written?
Well family and friends, it's almost apon me. I can't believe it. I feel like I've been waiting forever. I'm so excited for whats to come, how God is going to change me, all the ways I'm going to sevre Him, and how He's going to use me.
Thank you, to everyone who has supported me financially and through prayer. God is good, all my funds are here and all the last minute things have been coming together better then I ever could have imagined! Please keep praying for me, the adventure is just about to begin.
Bye to all, see you in 5 months. Keep checking for updates, I plan on sharing many of the stories that are in my future with you, right here on my blog.
Much love,
Hannah
